ABOUT ME
Wayne has been involved in basketball in BC for over 25 years. He played on the ’85 BC U17 provincial team that traveled to Arizona and Los Angeles where NBA players Gary Payton, Greg Foster, Mark West, Sean Higgins, Marty Conlon and LaBradford Smith were among the attendees.
He began his post-secondary playing career at Douglas College where he played on the championship BCCAA men’s team that placed third at the National Championships in 1989. Wayne continued his playing career at SFU in the NAIA under former National team coach and Toronto Raptor head coach Jay Triano.
Wayne is an NCCP Level 3 certified coach. In 1999 he assisted the Barbados Junior National team in preparation for the Junior Worlds in Moscow 2000. He has led two of the three senior high school boy’s teams he has coached to BC provincial tournament standings.
Wayne has been in the Burnaby School district for 15 years. He is currently head coach of the AAA Byrne Creek Bulldogs in the Burnaby School district where he is in Youth Services as part of the counseling department. Byrne Creek is in its 6th year of existence and the basketball team has won the Burnaby /New West league twice and also qualified for the Provincial tournament twice in 2009 and 2010.
Some of Wayne’s former players are on rosters in college and university teams in BC, Alberta, Quebec, Ontario and professionally in Europe. He was recognized by the BC High School boys’ basketball Association in 2010 with the Ken Wright Memorial Award for coaching excellence presented at the AAA Provincial Championships.
